The short version

The Oilers were founded in 1972 in the World Hockey Association and joined the NHL for the 1979-80 season. The club has been in Edmonton throughout, moving from Northlands Coliseum to Rogers Place in 2016.

Five Stanley Cups arrived between 1984 and 1990, a run that included four titles in five seasons and back-to-back wins in 1984-85 and 1987-88. It is one of the most dominant stretches in the sport's history, and it is why the club's 1980s designs remain among the most requested retro hockey shirts anywhere.

Orange and blue, and the most dominant seven seasons in hockey

Edmonton wears the colours of the province it plays in, and the reason its 1980s designs are so heavily chased is a five-Cup run in seven years.

01

Orange and blue is an unusual pairing in North American sport, and it is Edmonton's own: the club has used those colours throughout its history, and they are the colours of the city and the province rather than a design choice made for effect. Navy sits behind the orange as the secondary, and the striping is where editions differ — a 1984 design and a current one are unmistakably the same club in visibly different clothes. Because the club founded in the World Hockey Association in 1972 and only joined the NHL in 1979, some of the most visually distinct designs in our range are from the WHA years, and they are the ones that most often get mistaken for vintage NHL sweaters.

02

The number culture here is the strongest argument for the retro market in the sport. Five Stanley Cups between 1984 and 1990, including four in five seasons and back-to-back titles in 1985 and 1988, means one generation of Edmonton hockey is permanently attached to a small set of numbers. That is why the 1980s Oilers designs are the most requested vintage hockey shirts we carry, and it is also why the current era — built around a scoring captain — pulls demand in the opposite direction. Both ends of that split are well represented in the range.

05

The story so far

The current era is built around a captain who led the NHL in scoring in 2025-26 with 138 points, earning a sixth career scoring title. Edmonton finished second in the Pacific Division with 93 points, then lost a first-round series to Anaheim in six games.

We list 82 Oilers items. Home designs lead, with a striking share of women's cuts and customisable product behind them — a broader spread than most NHL clubs we carry. Fan, Premium, or Retro?

Every league names its cuts differently. Here is the plain-English version of what the words on each listing mean.

Fan cut

The standard supporter jersey — air-knit fabric, embroidered crest, built for the rink and the stands.

Premium cut

Heavier fabric with fight-strap detailing and truer on-ice proportions.

Retro / Alternate

Winter Classic and alternate designs alongside the home and away sets.

Custom

Your name and number on a blank team shell, lettered to order.

Sizes and who they are for

How the cuts fit in practice, and what to do when you are on the boundary.

True to size

Most listings run true to size with an athletic cut. If you wear a medium tee, a medium jersey is the usual call.

Between sizes?

Size up for a looser match-day fit, or stay down for a closer cut under a hoodie.

Youth & women's

Both are carried in selected editions and sized on their own charts — the listing page shows the break.

Care guide

Five minutes of care keeps a printed or stitched shirt looking new for years. These are the steps that actually matter — the rest is optional.

StepWhat to doWhy it matters
1 · WashTurn the shirt inside out and wash cold, on a normal or gentle cycle, with a mild detergent. Wash it with other darks.Heat and detergent are what break down screen-printed ink and loosen heat-bonded numbers. Inside-out protects the graphic from abrasion.
2 · No bleach, no softenerSkip chlorine bleach and fabric softener. If a shirt needs brightening, use an oxygen-based cleaner and check the care label first.Softener leaves a film on the print that traps dirt, and bleach will fade the colours and eat into stitching over time.
3 · Dry low or air dryAir dry flat or on a hanger. If you have to use a dryer, use low heat for a short cycle and take it out while slightly damp.High tumble heat is the single biggest cause of shrinking and warped twill numbers. Drying damp and shaping by hand avoids both.
4 · Iron inside outIron the shirt inside out on a low setting, or press a cloth over the graphic. Never iron directly onto a number, name or crest.Direct heat and steam lift the edge of a print and can melt heat-bonded lettering. Inside out puts the heat on the fabric, not the graphic.
5 · Store it properlyFold or hang in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not leave a shirt in a car or an attic over a season.Sunlight fades colours unevenly and heat in a parked car or loft will yellow the fabric. A dark, dry storage spot is the whole job.

Common questions

How many Stanley Cups have the Oilers won?

Five, between 1984 and 1990. The 1990 title is the club's most recent.

When were the Oilers founded?

1972, in the World Hockey Association. The club joined the NHL in 1979.

Where do the Oilers play?

Rogers Place in Edmonton, since 2016. Before that, the club played at Northlands Coliseum from 1974.

How did the 2025-26 season go?

Edmonton finished second in the Pacific Division with 93 points, then lost a first-round series to Anaheim in six games.

How many Oilers items do you list?

82 at the last check, broken down by edition in the table above.

Why is the Oilers range so heavy on women's cuts?

Because that is what the club's buyers ask for. The edition table above is counted from live listings rather than a template, and women's cuts are an unusually large block for an NHL club.
