The short version

The Knicks are one of the NBA's founding franchises, established in 1946 and playing in the same building lineage ever since. Madison Square Garden has hosted the club for its entire history and remains one of the most recognisable venues in world sport.

Two championships arrived in the early 1970s: 1970 and 1973. Then came the wait. For 53 seasons the club reached the Finals only twice without winning, including a seven-game loss in 1994 and a five-game loss in 1999. That ended in June 2026, when New York beat San Antonio 4-1 to take a third championship.

Orange and blue, taken from a city flag

The Knicks did not pick their colours in a design meeting. They took them from New York itself, and have kept them through every redesign since.

01

Orange and blue was chosen at the club's founding in 1946 to reflect the colours on the city's flag, together with the blue that appeared on early Knicks uniforms. That origin matters more than it sounds: it is the reason the pairing has stayed broadly stable for eighty years while trim details have changed constantly. If you are choosing between two Knicks shirts, the difference is almost never the colour — it is the stripe width, the font of the wordmark and the cut of the armhole. Madison Square Garden is one of the few venues in world sport that a supporter never needs to be told about, and a lot of Knicks buying is about the building rather than the shirt.

02

New York's number culture was defined by two decades of very small, very distinctive numbers. #10 belonged to Walt Frazier and is the most recognised single digit in club history; #33 to Patrick Ewing during the era when the Knicks were a genuine contender. The wait that ended in June 2026 changes the arithmetic somewhat, because the current era has not yet accumulated its own retired number — but the vintage designs from the Frazier years remain among the most requested in our range, and the post-2026 demand has been concentrated on the current-era looks rather than the old ones.

The story so far

The 2025-26 regular season produced 53 wins and third place in the Eastern Conference. The Finals turned on Game 5 in San Antonio: New York overturned a half-time deficit to win 94-90, with a franchise Finals record 45 points from the eventual Finals MVP.

We list 164 Knicks items. City and statement designs are the biggest block, and customisable pieces follow — a pattern that sharpened considerably after the 2026 title. Live examples: “Tim Hardaway Jr. New York Knicks Youth 2020/21 Jersey - Icon Edition - Blue”; “RJ Barrett New York Knicks Youth Jersey - Icon Edition - Royal”; “RJ Barrett New York Knicks Youth 2019/20 Jersey - Association Edition - White”.

Swingman, Statement, or Custom?

Every league names its cuts differently. Here is the plain-English version of what the words on each listing mean.

Swingman

The classic fan cut — twill numbers, athletic taper, the silhouette you see on court.

Statement / City

Alternate designs and city editions, carried alongside the standard colourways.

Classic / Retro

Hardwood-era designs brought back for the current roster.

Custom

Blank shells with your own name and number, printed to order.

Sizes and who they are for

How the cuts fit in practice, and what to do when you are on the boundary.

True to size

Most listings run true to size with an athletic cut. If you wear a medium tee, a medium jersey is the usual call.

Between sizes?

Size up for a looser match-day fit, or stay down for a closer cut under a hoodie.

Youth & women's

Both are carried in selected editions and sized on their own charts — the listing page shows the break.

Care guide

Five minutes of care keeps a printed or stitched shirt looking new for years. These are the steps that actually matter — the rest is optional.

StepWhat to doWhy it matters
1 · WashTurn the shirt inside out and wash cold, on a normal or gentle cycle, with a mild detergent. Wash it with other darks.Heat and detergent are what break down screen-printed ink and loosen heat-bonded numbers. Inside-out protects the graphic from abrasion.
2 · No bleach, no softenerSkip chlorine bleach and fabric softener. If a shirt needs brightening, use an oxygen-based cleaner and check the care label first.Softener leaves a film on the print that traps dirt, and bleach will fade the colours and eat into stitching over time.
3 · Dry low or air dryAir dry flat or on a hanger. If you have to use a dryer, use low heat for a short cycle and take it out while slightly damp.High tumble heat is the single biggest cause of shrinking and warped twill numbers. Drying damp and shaping by hand avoids both.
4 · Iron inside outIron the shirt inside out on a low setting, or press a cloth over the graphic. Never iron directly onto a number, name or crest.Direct heat and steam lift the edge of a print and can melt heat-bonded lettering. Inside out puts the heat on the fabric, not the graphic.
5 · Store it properlyFold or hang in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not leave a shirt in a car or an attic over a season.Sunlight fades colours unevenly and heat in a parked car or loft will yellow the fabric. A dark, dry storage spot is the whole job.

Generic care guidance for printed, stitched and heat-bonded football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer shirts. Follow the care label on your specific item if it differs.
